CKLU 96.7FM in Sudbury! CKLU 96.7FM was born 24 years ago in a trailer alongside the Laurentian University parking Lot. CKLU now broadcasts live from the Parker Building (officially indoors, on campus and of legal age). Over 25,000 pairs of ears tune in to CKLU locally – our global listenership is possibly exponential. CKLU is the alternative to the usual. Thanks, Praise and Accolades To Laurentian University, The SGA and LAMBDA for their continual active support, both financially and philosophically. CKLU is a community based, student funded, volunteer driven non-profit superior radio station. We also thank the NOHFC for their internship grant. Thanks to all. |

| Now Broadcasting 24/7 . Mondays – Start the week off with what all the cool kids are listening to, for real and pretend. Then join the human race at eleven and catch Andy Travis and his Top 30 chart, and if you’ve ever wondered what the music scene is like up here, tune in at 5pm for City Spins. The Learning Clinic at six features professionals from various fields discussing their respective vocations, and at eight Restaurant at the End of the Universe serves up a five-course feast of music for seasoned rock-oners. A fitting aperitif of a mish mash of new and unknown tunes takes you to the end of CKLU’s radio programming day. Tuesdays – Good morning hip-hop, hello urban! Flow into work sans probleme. At nine-thirty Focus Sharon Focus tests the office place with a conglomeration of films, books on tape and completely unrelated tunes. For those who hated grunge even (and especially) when it was cool, you’ll love Barry Champlain’s secretly snobby music sensibility. Put your ears on cruise control to Sudbury’s own good feel Jamaican daddy Flava at four, followed by the exceptional song selections by local silk-screen guru Skanes. And of course, every Tuesday should end by zoning out to electronica, non? Wednesdays – CKLU’s latest recruit Sir James is the quintessential morning host, always remaining in his lane and keeping both eyes on the proverbial road. Hear Paul Lowenberg, the pro behind Monster-a-go-go for twenty years: he is the voice of indie music. Linger over lunch with The Trinnie and meet folks from all over the world telling their stories and experiences here in the Suds. For your fix of conspiracy and paranormal radio, do not miss Night Fright Afternoon with Brent Holland. Get a folky low down on the university club scene (as in chess, books and the rest), followed by a smattering of beeps, squeaks and clicks. Then drop all inhibitions and tune in to Audible Porn. And if you missed Night Fright, fear not, Brent is back on at ten. Thursdays – This is CKLU’s salute to syndicated programming, starting off with Barry Mercer’s Jazzomania, then taking you all over the globe care of Putamayo, followed by our friends from out west and their scoop on living and eating right. Sound of Sound is a smashing trip through time on the flip side, followed by our own Cosmic Dave’s “smokin” afternoon of smoke-friendly tunes. Hot Bunny Radio kicks off at six with her cool and collected picks from the hip and happening. Metal heads bang together at eight (Rock On Sudbury!), followed by a friendly shot in the arm of great tunage. Fridays – Welcome to Canada’s only radio programming for and by seniors. Hear the old country classics and all the late and the greats that pioneered music as we know it now. Check out Miller Time at three for a distinct brand of political commentary mixed with, well, let’s face it: guy music. DJZL, Canada’s top DJ, is on at 8, spinning house until ten. If you’re entertaining at home, chill to This Week in Braille, CKLU’s love letter to music therapy. Saturdays – The best hang over cure is a shot with your morning coffee, or so we believe in Sudbury! The Green Majority advises us on a better and more environmentally friendly universe, with obscure radio dramas and humour tunes to follow. At noon it’s the discerning musical picks and critiques of Discorporate Rock Radio, and Famous Flava is back for the rest of the afternoon with his weekend island vibes. If you like cars and music about cars, Village of the Darned will drive you all the way to four-cylinder heaven. Forget paying cover at the local so-so clubs, and tune in at ten instead for Rhythms of Clublife. Notes from the Underground will keep your mind open right up until your eyes close. Sundays – It’s International Music Day! Starting at ten, My Pickin’ Parlour is a beautifully arranged program featuring acoustic and classical guitar. Radio Polonia is our Polish connection with a gypsy vibe and Polish news, followed by a contemplative and distinctly Canadian Irish stew of jigs and ballads. Vibrations of India magically takes you to a better place within, followed by the best reggae and dub on the airwaves. Les singes volants provide the hippest French music out there, leading into award winning metal show Above the Waste. Nadine’s Late Nite provides the perfect soundtrack for reflecting on the past week and scheming for the next. |
